Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center LLC raises 8.39 billion yen in funding to start operations

~Accelerating efforts to open a data center in Ishikari that runs on 100% renewable energy~

Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center No. 1 LLC


■ Following the decision to grant a subsidy from the Communications and Information Network Association of Japan (CIAJ) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "FY2021 Supplementary Digital Infrastructure Development Fund Subsidy Project," preparations have been underway for the first planned Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center, with a target opening date of April 2026. Tokyu Land Corporation, Flower Communications Inc., and Agility Asset Advisors Inc. will take the lead in constructing the first planned Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center in Ishikari, Hokkaido, with design and design supervision provided by Asai Ken Architectural Institute Inc., and actively introducing on-site PPA.


■ Details of the Funding This funding was raised by Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center No. 1 LLC from domestic investors, utilizing the Real Estate Specified Joint Venture Act. The main purpose of this funding is to provide domestic investors with a new opportunity to enter the data center business, and going forward, the company will promote efforts toward the construction of the planned Buildings 2 and 3 (a total of 300MW including Building 1). Furthermore, Ishikari, Hokkaido, will play a role as a leading renewable energy data center park in Asia, contributing to regional revitalization, and through the promotion of this business, the company aims to realize Hokkaido's "Hokkaido Data Center Park Concept."


■ Key business areasWith this funding, we will build Hokkaido's first locally powered 100% renewable energy data center, encourage major domestic and international data center operators to enter Hokkaido, and promote the digital transformation of Hokkaido.In addition, in response to the growing demand for data centers due to the rapid spread of AI, we will provide Hokkaido's renewable energy to AI operators through on-site and off-site PPAs.

We are extremely pleased to see the progress being made on the data center construction plan by Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center LLC No. 1. This data center project is in line with national policy to relocate data centers to rural areas for the purpose of risk diversification, and we recognize it as an initiative of great social significance that is consistent with our city's concept of local production and revitalization of renewable energy. The establishment of this data center is expected to significantly develop the local economy, including promoting digital transformation to resolve local issues and creating a GX industry through the expanded use of renewable energy. We also believe that this project will have various ripple effects, such as encouraging the further concentration of data centers and the development of related infrastructure. The city will continue to support this project in cooperation with related businesses and others, with the aim of ensuring its success.

The development of a data center powered 100% by renewable energy from the Ishikari region is a truly pioneering initiative rooted in the local community.
